Introductory Sewing Workshop – Hand & Machine Sewing
For beginners

Duration: 15 hours, divided into 6 sessions of 2.5 hours each
When: Tuesdays, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM – from November 4 to December 9, 2025
Where: Slovene Cultural Center in San Pietro al Natisone [SMO] (via Alpe Adria, 67)

Notes: No prior sewing or cutting skills are required. Owning a sewing machine is recommended but not mandatory.
TOPICS:
Participants will learn through hands-on projects and the creation of small handmade items. Topics include:
- Sewing tools
- Materials: fabrics, stabilizers, haberdashery
- Machines: sewing machine, iron, serger
- Basic hand stitches: basting, backstitch, overcasting, hemming, sewing on buttons
- Basic machine stitches: straight and zigzag
- Introduction to patternmaking: from paper pattern to finished item (layout, marking, cutting, assembling)
- Introduction to the serger (live demo)
REQUIRED MATERIALS:
- Sewing needles (various sizes)
- Thimble
- Stainless steel pins
- Fabric scissors
- Paper scissors
- Measuring tape
- Tailor’s chalk
- Basting thread
- White sewing thread
- Assorted buttons
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Ruler.
