Location: Montemaggiore/Brezje, 33040 Taipana/Tipana (UD)
Guided by a geologist, we’ll travel with a time machine through the landscapes that have followed one another in the Torre Valleys over the past 200 million years.
The rocks and landforms we’ll encounter or observe from a distance will tell us stories of vanished tropical marine environments, huge underwater landslides, and mountains born from the titanic collision—still ongoing—between gigantic tectonic plates that move continents and push massive rock formations, hundreds of meters high and kilometers wide, over other rocks, giving rise to the many water springs found in the area.
We’ll reach the edge of the White Brook (Beli potok in Slovenian, Rio Bianco in Italian), a stream that joins with the Black Brook (Črni potok in Slovenian, Rio Nero in Italian) a little further downstream to form the Natisone River.
The route is linear, unfolding along forest trails and paths, connecting the village of Montemaggiore/Brezje (in the municipality of Taipana/Tipana) with the White Brook. Return will be along the same path.
