Location: Via Roma 31, 33017 Tarcento/Čenta (UD) | Dome of Tarcento/Čenta
This guided tour, led by Maria Trevisi, offers the opportunity to meet enthusiasts of “tomâts”, the traditional wooden carnival masks of the Tarcento/Čenta valley. Their gestures, stories, and the secrets whispered while carving wood will bring to life traditions and atmospheres passed down through generations.
The first part of the visit will take place in the Frangipane palace, inside the evocative “Cjase dai tomâts”, a permanent exhibition and workshop run by the carnival mask makers of Tarcento/Čenta (I Mascarârs di Tarcint). The space features historic masks nearly 100 years old, alongside contemporary tomâts created by today’s mask makers.
We will then continue exploring the town, visiting the Cathedral of St. Peter with its valuable archaeological finds carefully displayed inside, followed by a walk along the Torre River, allowing us to fully experience the spirit of Tarcento/Čenta — known in the early 1900s as the “Pearl of Friuli.”
