Location: Church of the Holy Spirit in Albana/Ibana, 33040 Prepotto/Prapotno


A scenic hike through history, art, and nature with sweeping views over the Judrio Valley, winding through vineyards, forests, and along the Italian–Slovenian border.

Program:

  • 09:30 AM – Meet-up and check-in at the parking lot of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Albana/Ibana (Prepotto/Prapotno), across from the cemetery, with stunning panoramic views over the Judrio Valley (Google Maps).
  • 10:30 AM – Hike up toward Centa/Britof and visit the 16th-century Church of Saints Peter and Paul, part of what was once a fortified medieval village. Inside, you’ll find remarkable paintings from 1585 and 1777, as well as a carved wooden altar dedicated to the Immaculate Conception.
  • 12:00 AM – Continue on to San Pietro di Chiazzacco/Te to visit the late Gothic Church of Saint Peter (already mentioned in records from 1175), featuring impressive 16th-century frescoes from the Slovenian school adorning the portico, apse, and triumphal arch.
  • 12:30 PM – Picnic on the meadows surrounding the church with local specialties (herb frittata, polenta, cheese, vegetables, bread, water, and wine). Wide-open views stretch across Friuli all the way to the Adriatic Sea. Afterwards, a presentation of local publications with guide Moreno Tomasetig, an expert in regional history.
  • 03:30 PM – Return to Albana/Ibana through the woods; time permitting, a short stop at the Neolithic cave of Brischis/Brišče.

Total distance: 8 km (5 miles)
Elevation gain: 300 m (980 feet)
Hiking shoes recommended.

Cost: 25 € per person (includes the hike and picnic).
