“Guidàti nella meraviglia” is heading to the Natisone Valleys. This special itinerary invites you to experience the spirit of the upcoming Easter celebration — its rituals, traditions, and unique atmosphere. We’ll tour small votive churches, explore local history, and discover fascinating folk customs.
We’ll meet at 2:30 PM in front of the SMO Museum – Museum of Landscapes and Narratives in San Pietro al Natisone/Špeter. From there, we’ll drive in our own cars to Vernasso/Barnas, where the Church of St. Bartholomew will be opened for us. Inside, we’ll admire a 16th-century fresco cycle depicting the Apostles, along with a beautifully carved and gilded wooden altar dating to the late 1600s.
Moving “from wonder to wonder,” we’ll continue (again in our own cars) to Clenia/Klenije to visit the Church of St. Anthony Abbot. A carved and gilded altar and recently uncovered, carefully restored frescoes will welcome us into this sacred space.
We’ll then return to San Pietro al Natisone/Špeter, where inside the SMO Museum we’ll learn about the tradition of “pierhe” — hand-decorated hard-boiled eggs that are dyed and intricately scratched using a technique passed down through generations. It’s a beautiful way to step into the heart of Easter traditions in this region.
