Malon is a white-fleshed pumpkin with a cylindrical-roundshape, grown in the Natisone Valleys. It is harvested from late August to September. In traditional recipes, it is mainly used in briza or župa malonova, a soup made with malon, batuda (acidified whole cow's milk), beans and sometimes potatoes.
In 2024, the Slow Food Travel Valli del Natisone e Torre local Community has ensured that malon became a Slow Food Presidium.
