Every first weekend of September, the traditional Mountain Festival takes place, with trilingual (Italian, Slovenian and Friulian) mass on the summit of Mount Matajur on Sunday, and a programme of events starting on Saturday.
Estimated date: First weekend of September
A symbol of the desire for peace and unity among people, the trilingual Holy Mass, recited in Italian, Slovenian and Friulian on the summit of Mount Matajur every first Sunday in September on the occasion of the Mountain Festival, is one of the most important symbolic events taking place in the Natisone Valleys. Sunday's Holy Mass is followed by celebrations near Rifugio Pelizzo. The Festival, which is usually accompanied by various sporting, cultural and musical events, begins the day before, resulting in a weekend completely dedicated to Matajur and in which the mountain reaches the peak of its vitality.
