Antro Cave

A tourist cave, allowing visitors to enter more than three hundred metres into the depths of the earth and to see two Gothic churches that bear witness to ancient religiosity.

The village of Antro lies halfway up the hillside on the right side of the Natisone River and features an interesting architecture. Not far from the village, you will find the Grotta di Antro - Landarska jama, which can reached by a flight of stone steps. It has offered shelter to the population since ancient times, and has been a place of worship since the 8th century. Legend tells about the siege by Attila and the Huns on the population, who took refuge here and were saved thanks to the wit of Queen Vida. Inside, there is a late Gothic chapel by Master Andrea of Škofja Loka, and a wooden altar by sculptor Jernej Vrtav from Kobarid. The initial part of the cave can be visited (church, display cabinets with discovered remains, Ursus speleus reconstruction, several hundred metres of tunnels).
